Cable tester
Introduction
This cable tester is used to test the through-continuity and arrangement of wires for:
- RJ11
- RJ45
connectors.
After the ends of the cable have been terminated in their connector the ends are plugged into each half of the cable tester and the test sequence is started.
The LED should light in sequence 1 to n, where n is the number of wires in the connector.
For RJ45 the usual number of wires is 8 and the sequence should scan from 1 to 8 progressively and in order for a straight through cable. CAT6 cable can also have a shield, and the tester will illuminate that as the ground LED.
pinouts
There are standard pinouts for the RJ45 connector and standard wire colours; we are going to use the industry T-568B standard arrangement for a straight-through cable.
